Flower Power for your Easter Morning

Vendor Spotlight: Meri Wagner Florals

The first time I met Meri Wagner I was impressed by the amount happiness that exudes from her. She walked into my clients bridal suite with a cart full of some of the most stunning flower arrangements I have ever seen and a HUGE smile on her face. She is sweet, bubbly, and extremely creative. In my line of work you meet a lot of people every day but the ones that make the most impression are the ones that love what they do. Meri Wagner is a florist extraordinaire and I am so pleased to share with you all some photos of her work and some information about the woman herself. Enjoy!

SB: How long have you been a florist?
MW: I started with an after school/part-time job when I was 16. There was a flower shop a block from school and I had always loved flowers…who doesn’t!! So to reveal my age… I’ve been in the business for 29 years!

SB: What is your favorite part of the job?
MW: Getting to see the look on the bride’s face after working for days on their wedding. It’s a priceless moment for me.  Also, getting to be super creative and coming up with fun ideas. It never gets old.Something Borrowed Weddings and Events by Sierra Baxter
SB: If you could tell a couple just one thing about picking florals for their wedding, what would it be?
MW: Know that just because you see something on Pinterest or in photos, it doesn’t mean it is within your budget. Do the research. Know what flowers truly cost. Everyone wants Peonies and garden roses this year! Well…Peonies are only available certain months and weather can be a big factor. Add in that EVERYONE wants them, supply can’t always keep up. Maybe just add a touch here and there. But know that your florist will do everything in their power to get them for you, but other issues may prevent it from happening. Trust in your florist and let them be creative and use their best judgement. That’s why you paid them!

SB: Do you have a favorite flower?
MW: NO! I have at least 10! hahaha! My all time favorite is a Bearded Iris ( I have a tattoo of one on my ankle), Gloriosa Lilly, Parrot Tulip, Clooney Ranuncula, Dahlias, Anemones, most of the Spring flowers. I just love walking in to the LA Flower Market each week and seeing what new flower has arrived each season!! It’s like seeing an old friend. Such a high!

SB: What would you say are the most unique wedding flower?
MW: That’s a tough one…at the moment I would say Proteas. They are really fun to use and each one is soo unique. They have a very distinct shape and are gaining popularity this year. I think you’ll be seeing more and more of them…hopefully!
